393 pSummary:
Born in apartheid-torn Cape Town, sisters Ruby and Rose live in an unwelcoming world. As part of the Cape Coloured community they are considered socially inferior, yet even compared with their own people the sisters are poor. Their father was killed when they were very small, and when their mother dies Ruby and Rose's fate is in the hands of Aunt Olive. She sends the girls to the local orphanage where they grow up sheltered from the world of apartheid, but the time comes when Ruby and Rose must emerge into that world and forge their own paths in life
