Summary:
Follows the early days of the Gunslinger, Roland Deschain. He and his friends, high-born sons of the landowning political elite called the Affiliation, are students, undergoing strict training in order to bear the title Gunslinger. Roland earns that right by overcoming his teacher in a fight. Eventually, Roland and two friends are sent to Mejis to spy on the evil John Farson. It is in Mejis that Roland meets Susan, and in so doing changes his destiny forever
